About

2nd IEEE International Conference on Computational Advances in Bio and Medical Sciences (ICCABS)

Stan Fulton Building, UNLV, Feb. 23-25, 2012, Las Vegas, Nevada

Advances in high-throughput technologies such as DNA sequencing and mass spectrometry are profoundly transforming life sciences, resulting in the collection of unprecedented amounts of biological and medical data. Using this data to advance our knowledge about fundamental biological processes and improve human health requires novel computational models and advanced analysis algorithms. IEEE ICCABS aims to bring together leading academic and industry researchers to discuss the latest advances in computational methods for bio and medical sciences.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to: Biological modeling and simulation, Biomedical image processing, Biomedical data and literature mining, Computational genetic epidemiology, Computational metabolomics, Computational proteomics, Databases and ontologies, Gene regulation, Genome analysis, Health Informatics, High-performance bio-computing, Immunoinformatics, Molecular evolution, Population genomics, Sequence analysis, Structural bioinformatics, Systems biology, Transcriptomics.

Two special issues of journals (BMC Bioinformatics and BMC Genomics) on selected extended abstracts will be published. A limited number of student travel awards will be made (conditional upon NSF support). This year we also plan to have review sessions where researchers get to present their results (possibly published in other venues). These results will not appear in the proceedings.

       http://www2.computer.org/portal/web/cscps/formatting

Extended abstracts should not exceed 6 pages in length; invited, poster, and workshop abstracts should be only one page.

  2. The appropriate copyright clearance code notice must be added to the left bottom of the first page of the paper (in footer). Also, page numbers should be added to the center of the footer on all pages. The copyright notices are listed below. LateX commands needed to add the general copyright notice (c) and page numbers to the manuscript are included at the end of these instructions

    • For papers in which all authors are employed by the US government, the copyright notice is:
U.S. Government work not protected by U.S. copyright
    • For papers in which all authors are employed by a Crown government (UK, Canada, and Australia), the copyright notice is: 978-1-4673-1321-6/12/$31.00 ©2012 Crown

Workshops

2nd Workshop on Computational Advances for Next Generation Sequencing (CANGS 2012)

Massively parallel DNA and RNA sequencing have become widely available, reducing the cost by several orders of magnitude and placing the capacity to generate gigabases to terabases of sequence data into the hands of individual investigators. These next-generation technologies have the potential to dramatically accelerate biological and biomedical research by enabling the comprehensive analysis of genomes and transcriptomes to become inexpensive, routine and widespread. The exploding volume of data has spurred the development of novel algorithmic approaches for primary analyses of sequence data in such areas as error correction, de novo genome assembly, novel transcript discovery, virus quasispecies assembly, etc. This workshop will bring together specialists to discuss the various mathematical and computational challenges presented by next-generation sequencing technologies. This meeting is by invitation only. If you would like to inquire about the possibility of being invited, please contact the organizers by January 31, 2012.

Posters and Highlights

At this time we accept poster and Highlights submissions.

Each poster submission should not exceed 1 page in length. In addition to being displayed, each accepted poster will also be allocated a short time for an oral presentation. Each poster title should start with the word “Poster:” Accepted abstracts will be published in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library.

The Highlights track is meant for authors to talk about results from previously published papers. Each accepted speaker will be given the same amount of time as that for a regular paper. Nothing will be published in the proceedings corresponding to the Highlights track. Authors are asked to submit a brief summary and the importance along with publication details of the paper they want to talk about. The title of the summary should start with the word “Highlights:”.

Authors are invited to make their submissions electronically in PDF format by following the instructions at http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=iccabs12. Submissions should be prepared using IEEE Computer Society’s Word/LaTeX templates available at http://www2.computer.org/portal/web/cscps/formatting
